The goal of the wearables track is to explore various wearable technologies, including technologies that facilitate the acquisition of biometric data. Such devices have applications both in the realm of consumer electronics, such as smart watches, and in healthcare, such as heart rate monitors and EEG. We offer wearable microcontrollers to allow students to design their own wearable projects, as well as LEDs, bone conducting speakers, heart rate sensors, EEG devices, electromyography equipment and various other components that allow us to interface with the human body.
Tech Kits are part of the walk-in service provided by OPIM Innovate. There are three levels of difficulty meant for different users and their experience with the different technologies. Many of the Tech Kits build off each other as you progress.

Description:The Adafruit FLORA is an Arduino-compatible microcontroller designed for wearable applications. In this project, you will learn to interface the FLORA with NeoPixels, Adafruit’s addressable LEDs. These can be used to add blinking and color-changing lights to your wearable projects.
Velostat Stretch Sensor
Length: 45 Minutes
Description: Velostat is a thin, flexible material that can be used as a pressure or stretch sensor. In this project, you will read data from the sensor to your Adafruit FLORA and blink its onboard LED. Using the same code, you can read data from all kinds of other sensors.
Heart Rate Monitor
Length: 60 Minutes
Description: In this project, you will interface the Adafruit FLORA with the Pulse Sensor Amped, a portable heart rate sensor. This will allow you to incorporate biometric data into your projects. You will learn to make a heart rate monitor that warns you when your heart rate falls outside a healthy range.
